A while back we had the pleasure of recording some music for Eleanor Friedberger during her stay in Marfa. Hotel Brotherhood and Candles were part of the band that recorded two wonderful songs at Marfa Recording Company over a few days last….well who knows how long ago it was anymore? Last spring or summer probably. Anyhow, these recordings have recently come to print in the form of a very nice 7 inch that was made and put out by Ballroom Marfa last month. Eleanor recorded two tunes for this release ‘I’ll Never be Happy Again’, a truly beautifully written song that seems to seek to pinpoint the tiny things that build us into greater humans and a wonderful cover of Jimmie Dale Gilmour’s ‘Dallas’. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have been part of the whole process and we strongly suggest you head on over to Ballroom’s website and pick one up with your electric fingertips.

Good friend Jack Sanders is interviewed by Cathy Byrd on Fresh Talk’s podcast. They chose to use a snippet of a new Hotel Brotherhood song called ‘Trains through the grass’ at the end of the interview,… but listen to Jack’s story, that’s the main thing.
In the interview Jack explains how he got to starting his “company” Design Build Adventure through his own experiences working with Samuel Mockbee and Liz Lambert and a hundred other amazing people. It’s a good listen.

Kelli Scarr and her band are coming to town, on tour from NYC and we’re going to do a show with them at Texas’ favorite trailer hotel, El Cosmico, right here in Marfa. Come cool out around the new outdoor stage El Cos has got set up outside under the rope lights, if you haven’t already… but then do again if you have. It’s a perfect desert oasis night time activity.

An incarnation of Hotel Brotherhood/Candles will be opening up for The Thriftstore Cowboys next weekend in west Texas as Thriftstore opens up it’s latest tour in the high desert. We’re excited.
At the Railroad Blues in Alpine on Friday June 15th
and Padre’s in Marfa on Saturday the 16th.

Hotel Brotherhood will be returning to the Hotel Havana in San Antone, on the 2nd of May in the year of the Water Dragon, 2012. The Havana is a wonderful old hotel in downtown San Antonio, and if you haven’t been there you should go… even if it’s not on the night of May 2nd…but maybe.
The last time we played there (with Judson Claiborne)….Baylor beat Washington across town in the Valero Alamo Bowl. It just happened to be the highest scoring bowl game in college football history, with Baylor winning in the end 67 to 56. Great.
